Stamford Sluice is located 160 metres west of Stamford Bridge weir in the village of Stamford Bridge.
The proposal is to install a 125 kW hydro electric generating station using an Archimedean screw within the sluice channel. The flow of water through the sluice and into the turbine will be controlled by an automatic sluice gate, controlled by level sensors which will be tied into a Hands-Off-Level(HOL) agreed with the Environment Agency. The HOL would ensure that sufficient water remained in the river at all times to allow the fish pass to operate and for the weir to remain wet.
It is proposed to include a fish pass adjacent to the Archimedean screw which will assist the up-river passage of fish, particularly given the underperforming existing fish pass on the weir at Stamford Bridge.
