The proposal is to install a 150kW Archimedean Screw into the Saltersford Sluice on the River Weaver. This
hydropower scheme has an exciting design, in that, it incorporates a lifting mechanism whereby the screw is automatically lifted from its operational position to a horizontal position during flood conditions. This allows for the same volume of water to pass through the sluice during current flood events as would currently pass through the existing sluice.
This scheme will have a Total Installed Capacity of 150kW generating approximately 800MWh/yr of renewable energy, saving 457 tonnes of CO2 per year. The scheme has an estimated lifespan of 60 years.
